From 8 to 14 Leaders: A Year of Growth at UFV

I spent March 13–14 in Abbotsford with our UCM team at the University of the Fraser Valley for their annual Leaders Trainingβ€”and it was a meaningful and momentum-building couple of days.

We kicked things off Friday night by gathering both outgoing and incoming student leaders and inviting them to share stories of the people who led them to faith and modelled the way of Jesus in their lives ✨. It was a powerful way to begin!

From there, I had the opportunity to revisit the vision and mission of UCM πŸ”πŸŽ―, helping anchor the team while also challenging them to grow their outreach muscles πŸ’ͺ in the year ahead.

Saturday focused on discerning a ministry plan for next year 🧭. We began with worship 🎢, prayer πŸ™, and Scripture πŸ“– before reflecting on insights from their recent Vision & AGM Night. Together, we sought to listen carefully to where God is leading this community next.

  • One of the most encouraging developments is the growth of the leadership teamβ€”from 8 to 14 student leaders stepping into roles for the coming year πŸ™Œ. There is a clear sense of momentum.

  • We also discerned a clear invitation to strengthen hospitality πŸ€β€”especially for new and exploring studentsβ€”by building out a dedicated Welcome Crew to help create a strong culture of invitation and belonging.

I’m so grateful for this team and expectant for what God will do through them in the year ahead.

Who Will Say β€œYes” to
Campus Ministry? πŸŽ“πŸ™

‍ On March 17, I made a quick return trip to Abbotsford to speak at Summit Pacific College during their monthly missions info session.

It was a privilege to share with around 20 Bible college students who are actively discerning their calling and future ministry direction ✨. I spoke about the urgent need for campus ministry across British Columbiaβ€”and the opportunity to step into this space not just as church leaders, but as missionaries sent to the campus 🌱.

My hope was simple: to plant seeds early 🌿. Many of these students are in their first, second, or third year, and now is the time to begin praying πŸ™ about where God may be leading them. We need leaders who are theologically grounded πŸ“–, pastorally formed 🫢, and who carry a deep sense of calling πŸ”₯ to reach the next generation.

I was especially encouraged by the thoughtful questions and meaningful conversations πŸ’¬ that followed. There is a hunger among these students to explore what it could look like to say β€œyes” to this kind of mission.

Would you join me in praying for them πŸ™? Pray that God would guide their discernmentβ€”and that some would be called to serve in campus ministry with UCM in the years ahead.
